CHAPTER 5 – Chastity, The Forgotten Virtue
5.1 One of my teachers used the word chastity in class today. I have never heard the word before. What does it mean?
5.2 Why should a person be chaste? I see nothing wrong with watching pornographic films, for instance. I’m sure that watching them will not change me.
5.3 We’ve been together for six months now. He says that he will marry me when he has saved up enough money. Now, since we love each other, he says that it is all right to have sex. What do you think?
5.4 Marriage is just a social contract, a formality on a piece of paper. What difference does it make whether we have sex now or after we are married, if I love her and she loves me?
5.5 I think that sex will deepen our relationship. When we are together, I feel so wanted and loved! Don’t you think that sexual intercourse will confirm and prove our love for each other, and help us to have a great marriage in future?
5.6 I’ve just started going out regularly with this girl whom I like and admire a lot. I think she will be a wonderful wife one day. How do we keep our relationship chaste?
5.7 Jack and I have been dating for a year. He sees nothing wrong with sex before marriage, but so far I have resisted his suggestions. I care for him a lot and I don’t want to lose him. If he leaves me because I said no, I might regret it for the rest of my life.
5.8 I made a mistake once, and lost my virginity to a boy who left me soon after we had sex. Should I tell my present boyfriend about my past?
5.9 Last night, I allowed my boyfriend to hold my hands. This morning, I thought I felt some pain when I urinated. Could I have caught VD from him?
5.10 Is masturbation harmful? Can it make me sick?
5.11 Studies have shown that masturbation is common among adolescents. I think that it is an outlet for sexual energy or frustration. A little bit of masturbation can hardly be wrong or harmful!
5.12 I am a fifteen-year-old boy. I am worried because I feel attracted to the captain of my school football team. Am I a homosexual?
5.13 I think that homosexuals have the right to do what they want. You can’t condemn them, because it’s a matter of personal choice, and there is no right or wrong to it. Homosexuality should merely be considered as an “alternative lifestyle”.
5.14 I have read some articles citing studies suggesting that homosexuality is in-born. If a person’s genes do not allow him any choice over his sexual orientation or behaviour, can he be faulted for engaging in homosexual acts?
