CHAPTER 4 – Marriage
4.1 Why do people marry?
4.2 I would like to develop a relationship with someone, and get married in a few years’ time. My problem is that there are three guys I like a lot, and I can’t decide!
4.3 I knew a couple in school who seemed very compatible. They spent a lot of time together and we all thought they were so suited to each other. Yet their marriage broke down after two years.
4.4 How do you keep a marriage going without husband and wife getting bored with each other?
4.5 My parents can’t wait to marry me off. Sometimes the questions my relatives ask make me feel very uncomfortable. Is there anything wrong with staying single?
4.6 We got engaged last year, having known each other for four years, and in this time had few arguments. He is the eldest son in his family, and I’m the only child in mine. We both feel responsible for our parents, who are aged and living in rented accommodation. Now that we are looking for a house to buy, we keep having frequent arguments on whose parents will stay with us. What should I do?
4.7 We are both in our twenties. We had been seeing each other regularly for a year, but hadn’t really discussed marriage. A few weeks ago, we had a quarrel and broke off. Though I said I didn’t want to see her any more, I miss her a lot, and I would like us to get together again. What can I do?
4.8 When should I start preparing for marriage? When I finish my studies?
4.9 I am only sixteen. I do not have a boyfriend. How do I prepare for marriage?
4.10 My parents quarrel everyday and there is no peace in the house. I prefer to spend time with my friends and I go home only to sleep at night. From what I can see, there aren’t many people who are happily married.
